Mardis Gras Trip to Jackson Mississippi

Well when most people are trying to head towards New Orleans for Mardi Gras, we were trying to get away. We've seen enough parades and beads in the last 3-4 years to last us a life time. Kids were out of school for Mardi Gras and we figured why not get away, so where do we decide to go...Jackson Mississippi! Right, a place I'm sure is on everyone's bucket list right? I don't know why we chose that city, we basically threw a dart at a map of any place within a 3-4 hour drive and it landed on Jackson. They have a Children's museum and a zoo so I figured why not. We got a hotel for a couple nights and figured we would make the best of it.

The Children's Museum was actually kinda cool there was a whole area of dinosaurs the kids enjoyed. Who doesn't like dinosaurs right? They had some other animals and exhibits as well, overall it was pretty fun just getting to hang out together. Only down side was that I kept getting phone calls about a post op patient that needed more pain medicine... my least favorite part of being a doctor is always being "on call" even when I'm on vacation with my family.
They have the whole world in their hands!
After the Children's Museum we went to the zoo, that's kind of our thing, we go to the zoo in about every city we visit (We have been to the Colorado Springs, Denver, SLC, Omaha, Des Moines, Pittsburgh, New Orleans and Houston Zoos) so why not Jackson. We had a good time, it was a smaller zoo and a bit dirty, but we still enjoy seeing all the animals.

A family trip is always chaotic with our family, lots of yelling and complaining can be expected, but looking back it was a good time and the memories are worth it. Not sure I'm in any hurry to get back to Jackson, was not that impressed with the city in general, but in the end it was a short and fun get away for the family!
