Adalie had some friends over on Monday and while they were outside playing, one of them got a thorn in her big toe. Brett over hears adalie say "It will be okay. My dad is almost a foot Dr and can probably fix it!" haha almost and ya, probably....probably.
She was pitching a fit and i told her to go to her room. She started to run down the hallway and then came running back to the living room to scream at me "I am not going to my room for YOU! It's because I WANT to myself!" Followed by a door slam.

Lots of things have been going on to make me a little teary eyed around here. First off, we have a preschool graduate! Side note- she will be taking it again, but it was a sweet moment to make into a memory. A reminder to me that my little baby girl is growing up so fast.

Second, our little Brody is 3 mths old!
our tiny baby boy that we brought home from the hospital at 4 lbs 14 ounces is now 12 lbs 1 ounce. Time is flying by. He is so aware of everything that is going on and coos non-stop. He is pretty much all smiles all the time, but still gets pretty fussy from the colic at night. Hoping that ends soon....Third, thing-this is the last full year i get to spend with my husband before he leaves for his mini residencies this time next yr for 8 mths. I get pretty emotional thinking about it so lets still not talk about it just yet. Fourth, my parents are coming into town this weekend. This is the first time they get to meet baby Brody. I haven't seen them since Christmas and I miss them terribly. My mother and father in law are coming too. I absolutely love family visits. Fifth, mothers day. I got everything I wanted. My beautiful lillies, delicious chocolate covered strawberries, a new crib mattress for Cason's bed (poor kid was sleeping on a terrible 5 yr old mattress), and a new trash can =) I wasn't supposed to tell you i got a new trash can but I want you to know how extremely excited I am for this new trash can. It was EXACTLY what I wanted for mother's day- no joke. The teary eyed thing in this story though goes to Brett- who, as it turns out, is discovering a terrible allergy to my lillies.
And sixth - my children. Good tears. Bad tears. Happy tears. Sad tears. Don't worry, mostly happy =)Thursday, May 17, 2012
Meant to Post Monday
Extremely Long post about Cason's nose troubles...
Well I knew sooner or later Cason would discover another hole in his face he could stuff food in. Brett was working late so the kids and I decided to have a movie night with popcorn. I popped the corn and started the movie.

They were sitting so quietly and deeply into the movie, I decided to get away for a few moments and attack the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. About 20 minutes later, Cason comes to me pointing at his nose. I just thought he wanted a tissue so I grabbed a tissue and held it up to his nose. "Blow" I say, just as I realize a popcorn kernel is sticking out of each nostril. Holy Crap. Called Brett to tell him the wonderful news and that I was going to try and get them out but would keep him updated on the whole situation. They came out pretty easy with just my finger, but to my horror I discovered another kernel right behind the 1st in each nostril. This time was a little trickier so (and DO NOT try this at home kids) I took a bobby-pin and scooped out those two without causing harm to my adorable 2yr old despite his kicking and screaming in protest. I felt great thinking I had avoided an er trip. Weeeellllll, I gave Cason a break as he would have nothing to do with me after sticking boppy pins up his nose, but when he let me get close again, i shot a quick glance up his nose to discover yet again, another kernel up the right side. Great. I haven't showered. Brett couldn't leave work. Kids were dirty and it was almost bedtime. I DID NOT want to go to the ER. So, a pretty handy dandy trick my grandmoma had taught me, and I had actually just read about happening to a friends little girl and she had also done, I decided to blow in his mouth really hard to see if I could get the kernel to shoot out. I could not however do this on my own because I have the strongest 2yr old in the world I am sure, so I called my wonderful friend, neighbor, and visiting teacher to come help me hold my child down while I blew in his mouth. So we took Cason to the bedroom, she held him down on the bed to give him "tickles" and I held his head steady to give him "kisses". One Big Blow and out popped a kernel and lots of snot from his right nostril. I felt pretty darn awesome. This was a HUGE kernel, one of those half popped ones. There was even a little blood on its outskirts so I knew it was stuck in there pretty good. Amazed that it actually worked, my friend went home and I continued with the night trying to get the kids ready for bed. When Cason settled down, I noticed he kept whining and playing with his nose. I tricked him into letting me look up his nose by playing Dr with Daddy's penlight. I let him look up my nose and then I looked up his. 2 more kernels shoved up there. One in each. Great. Ok, let's call friend back over for one more good blow before I decide to take him down to the ER. We fought again to give tickles and Kisses, but I blew as hard as I could (poor kid), and sure enough, two more kernels full force and lots more snot all over me and Cason. The nightmare was over. It took a while to calm Cason down, but he went to bed and I had a very horrible night thinking there was still a kernel up there and he was going to choke on it, so I set my alarm to go off every hour so I could check he was still breathing.
I fought back and forth with myself about taking him to the Dr on Friday to have her check to make sure we got them all. However, and this may sound terrible, they were going to make me go to urgent care and wait with my three children to see a Dr who would try and do the exact same thing I just did at the house before they would send me to the ENT so he could do something about it. Brett was seriously stressed about his final test that Monday, and hearing stories of people stuck with things up there nose for years and never even knowing about it, I made the probably somewhat unconcerned decision to not take Cason into the Dr to have them check to see if there is anything still stuck up there. I had planned to take him today maybe to have them check it out, but alas I did not. He is sick with a cough and goopy eyes which may even have something to do with something stuck up his nose, so if the symptoms still persist by Thursday, I promise I will take him in. But if the symptoms decrease, I will not. And then, a few yrs from now when he is getting a physical for something or another and the Dr asks "Did you know he has a popcorn kernel up up his nose?" I will reply, almost in shock "No, I did not!! That is so strange!" and pretend I am oblivious to the whole thing.
So how many kernels can you fit up your nose? Because Cason can fit 7.

My Boys
remember this??
Now This!!
3 in one day?!?
Yes, three post so far in one day...I had a lot of catching up to do!!
So what else have we been doing? Let's see. Saturday Brett had a kid health fair he was volunteering for at his school. There were lots of different booths to teach kids how to be healthy with some fun activities. Brett's booth of course was the last upstairs in the building where he was doing biomechanics of kids feet (a foot physical hehe). I got over my anxiety of taking all 3 kids out by myself for once, and we were off to enjoy the funivities!! I am so glad we went because Adalie and Cason had a great time. And Brody was the prefect passenger just sleeping away in his stroller. It was super hot and most of the booths were outside. They learned about sunscreen, healthy eating, lots of fun exercises, germs, balance, and different types of shoes for all different activities =) Here are a few pictures. I didn't get many, because about half way through I was trying to keep Cason from running off and the stroller rolling down the hill, so I had to out the camera away. It was a fun and free activity. Double bonus

Adalie
She can be super sarcastic sometimes and I forget she is only 4. The other day Brett was checking me out (not that way in a Dr. way hehe) I said something along the lines of "Are you sure blah blah blah..." and Brett says jokingly "Trust me, I'm a Dr." Adalie perks up from the table and says in a very matter of fact, excuse me while i correct you kind of way "ALMOST a Dr...."
She is muttering things under her breath lately and this one was a reality check for me. For those of you who have the pleasure of knowing our little tyrant Cason, you know there is absolutely nothing quiet about this kid. He was creaming about something as usual and I screamed back and said "Stop Screaming!" Adalie apparently recognized my oxymoron moment and said in her own quiet whisper not meaning for me to hear "well maybe if you didn't scream he wouldn't scream. duh" Ok I get it now, it probably is my fault that Cason screams from time to time. Let's work on changing that one shall we??
She wakes up every morning and usually walks into my room and ask if she can go to the living room to watch cartoons. She has become very handy with the netflix remote and knows how to do it all by herself. Probably a sign they watch too much of it. I also harmonize to all the songs associated with Dora the Explorer....another example of too much TV in our house. Anyway, this usually gives me a half an hour, sometimes even an hour, to stay in bed. Kind of nice sometimes.
She is a really great big sister who puts up with a lot of crud from her little brother. Although, I think she is starting to see that she can blame things on Cason now and he is not able to defend himself as his vocabulary is still somewhat limited. "Who was playing in the water??" "Must have been Cason" (the bathroom door was locked and cason does not know how to unlock it) "Where is the remote" "Ugh Cason probably lost it". "Didn't you already have a cookie Adalie??" "Cason took it and ate it and I didn't get any (said with chocolate chip still visible on the corners of her mouth)" What happened to this lamp?!!?" "Cason probably broke it" (he had been napping for the last hour and I heard the crash....while he was still sleeping)
We are working on telling stories around here...
Oh Adalie. I have nightmares of your teenage years. I will, however, love you despite them. =)
