Tuesday's Dr Apt

Yesterday I had the biopsy done for the cyst on my neck. My visiting teacher was able to watch the kids so that Brett could come with me, which was wonderful. I was a nervous wreck all day and my hart felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest. I know, I am such a baby. But 2 things were really freaking me out....1. The unknown of exactly what was going to happen. 2. At some point, a freaking needle was going to go into my neck.

When we got there and in, the Dr was very nice. She explained what it was that was on my neck. She said hundreds of people have growths there and don't even know about it. It becomes a problem if it continues to grow or if in fact the biopsy comes back "abnormal" aka cancerous. She looked at it with the ultrasound machine again and while she was explaining the procedure, the lights kept flickering and went out. As if I wasn't scared enough you can imagine how this helped the situation. Well, she got a needle ready with some anesthetic to help numb the area before she started the biopsy. Holy Ouch. The medicine she gave me would take about ten to fifteen minutes to work so the nurse got the room and tools ready for the procedure. One needle. Two needles. Three needles. Gunna pass out. Have to lay down. Four needles....right next to my head. Nurse "Are you okay honey?" Brett "She doesn't really like needles" Nurse "Here let me cover them up, will that help?" A little, but I still knew what was under there.

The Dr came back in ready for business and got the ultrasound machine ready again so she could see where to stick the needle. The fire alarm was going off the whole time too because the lights had gone out and no one new how to turn it off. Not really helping. I looked at Brett and asked if I was supposed to be numb because I wasn't. She stuck the first needle in and it huuuuurrrrrttttt. Have you ever tried not to swallow?? I was concentrating so hard on not swallowing thinking that if I did the tip of that needle would break off and get stuck in my throat and then they would have to rush me into the ER downstairs to remove it. Anywho, making this really long story short, she stuck me 4 more times after that, scraping the cyst in my neck and removing some of the fluid she found in the cyst. All in all, very uncomfortable and painful. Now I am going to have a bruise in the middle of my neck and I don't look forward to explaining that to people. I will probably just blame it on the kiddos and their rough housing.

I will know the results Friday or Monday. There is a 4 in 100 chance that it might be cancerous and I will have to have it removed. Obviously I want to be one of those 96. Or, if it keeps growing I will have to have it removed. Playing the waiting game is killing me slowly enough. Kind of a scary thought about having something in my body betray me like that, but Brett and I are pretty confident everything is ok, so no worries for now. Just trying not to think about it so much every second.

OK that sounds awful! I hate needles too and I can't even imagine them in any other place then my arm. Good luck-We'll keep you in our prayers
